Vasant Dhar

Vasant Dhar is a professor at the Stern School of Business, Professor of Data Science, Co-Director of the PhD program at the Center for Data Science at New York University, and founder of SCT Capital Management. His research and practice are about the design of trustable automated prediction and decision-making machines that encourage for human intervention when the risk of automated decisions is high. Dhar’s research also focuses on policy questions around the governance of data and digital platforms. Dhar pioneered the use of machine learning in capital markets, and has used machines to trade professionally for over two decades, and as a testbed for understanding the properties of decision-making behavior of machines that learn from data. Like other humans, he trusts hit gut more than he should.
